Once you have taken that step, there are a few things to consider before getting your (new) ride to the street after Winter.

We have collected the most important things to check, so you can enjoy your bike trips safely. As Germany has some of the best motorcycle touring roads in Europe, we also put together a few ones for you to consider in your 2026 biking plans, so stay till the end.

What to consider before starting into motorbike season

Experienced bike riders know how important maintenance is for bikes, especially after a long Winter pause. From empty batteries, corrosion and leaking fluids; a lot can happen over the cold months from October to March that can get into the way of the joy and excitement of being back on the road. That is why we created a checklist with the most common things to check to have a safe and carefree riding experience.

🔋 Battery

The battery is often one of the first components affected by winter storage. Cold temperatures and long periods without use can reduce battery charge or cause corrosion at the terminals. Checking and charging the battery ensures the motorcycle starts reliably and that all electrical systems function properly.

✔ Check battery voltage
✔ Charge battery fully (use a motorcycle charger)
✔ Clean battery terminals
✔ Check for corrosion or loose connections
✔ Reinstall battery if it was removed for winter

🛞 Tires

Tires naturally lose pressure over time and may develop flat spots if the motorcycle has been standing in one place for months. Before riding, it’s important to check tire pressure, tread depth, and overall condition to ensure safe handling and proper grip on the road.

✔ Check tire pressure (front & rear)
✔ Inspect tread depth

🛢️ Fluids

Motorcycle fluids play a critical role in engine performance, braking, and cooling. During winter storage, fluids can degrade, settle, or develop moisture contamination. Inspecting oil, brake fluid, coolant, and fuel helps maintain smooth operation and prevents potential damage to the engine and other systems.

Engine Oil

✔ Check oil level
✔ Look for contamination or milky color
✔ Change oil if it wasn’t changed before winter

Brake Fluid

✔ Check level in reservoir
✔ Fluid should be clear/light yellow (not dark)

Coolant

✔ Check coolant level
✔ Inspect hoses for leaks

Fuel

✔ If fuel is old, top up with fresh fuel
✔ Check fuel lines

🛑 Brakes

After months without use, brake components may develop surface rust or reduced responsiveness. Checking the brake pads, discs, and fluid levels ensures the braking system performs effectively and safely when you return to riding.

✔ Inspect brake pads
✔ Check brake discs for grooves or rust
✔ Test front and rear brake pressure
✔ Ensure brake light activates when braking

✔ Check steering movement (no stiffness)

Where to find the best motorbike tours in Germany

Once you are set and finally ready to hit the streets, all you need is a good route. Germany is known to have some very popular biking routes with surrounded by beautiful scenery that will make your ride a special one. Here are four that stood out to us:

1. Black Forest High Road (B500) – Schwarzwaldhochstraße

Location: Baden-Württemberg
Length: ~60 km (Baden-Baden → Freudenstadt)

This is arguably the most famous motorcycle road in Germany. The B500 runs along the ridge of the Black Forest with sweeping curves, smooth asphalt, and panoramic views of the Rhine Valley.

This legendary route passes medieval towns, castles, and Alpine scenery. It’s less about aggressive riding and more about beautiful scenery and historic stops.

3. Bavarian Alps / Alpine Pass Roads

The Bavarian Alps have some of Germany’s most dramatic riding. Expect tight switchbacks, high mountain passes, and incredible alpine views.
